A 1983 campaign saved Mothers' Beach, above, from a sea restaurant. A 1991 campaign stopped a 150-boat marina, involving jam-packed, wall-to-wall boats and car parking space.

Mornington Environment Association Inc. opposes the 2004 Yacht Club plan to replace the present 65 widely-spaced yacht swing moorings with concrete pens and access paths for 180 yachts and power boats. A 210 metre concrete "wave screen" would run east-west. The main pier would be screened more from wave action. Natural scouring will lessen, with silting and putrescence increasing. Doubling boat capacity means more car parking. The scene across water, and from Schnapper Point, will resemble an industrial area.
