The Cut, a channel for boating purposes, cut through the north of the peninsula on which the historic township of Queenscliff is sited.

It connects Swan Bay with Port Phillip, is the gateway to Swan Island, and is also, as can be seen, the Queenscliff terminal of the Sorrento-Portsea car ferry.

This area is designated in the Victorian Coastal Strategy (Section 4.5.3) as a site for a Safe Boat Harbour, See also Map 4, Queenscliffe Planning Scheme. QUEENSCLIFF.

Note the accreted sandy  foreshore well vegetated with indigenous foreshore plants at bottom left, along which the construction of a roadway was recently touted.
